What Causes Stress

Perhaps if we understand what causes stress then we can prevent it. Unfortunately this is not so easy.

The problem is that it differs from person to another. One person can ride a roller coaster and find it an enjoyable experience. Another will become sick to the stomach from the stress it creates for them.

A mother with ten children can be happy and carefree while a father trying to help tie his only child's shoe laces can totally lose it.

So are children or roller coasters the problem? Not likely!

One thing we do know is that it is possible for any individual to get a better understanding of what triggers stress for them if they are willing to pay attention and become more aware. There are usually tell tale signs when stress is present. However, for most of us, we need to learn how to become more aware.

Interestingly enough, some of the techniques for becoming more aware, are also techniques for helping to relieve stress. For example just five minutes a day sitting in silent meditation can help increase awareness and at the same time prevent stress.

Also, even though it varies from person to person there is some evidence to show that certain things are more likely to produce stress than others and that many of the triggers are lifestyle related.
