Self Awareness Activity
Regularly practicing a self awareness activity can make a difference to your life and how you deal with stress.
"Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed." ~Thich Nhat Hanh
And change is essential to growth. We are all perfectly imperfect. And our life is our classroom. We can use it to grow and change - to become more attuned to and in harmony with everything around us. And awareness is the key.
In my book Turn Stress Into Bliss
you will find several themes that the program is based around. These themes include: Befriending Your Body, Acceptance, Choice, and Discernment.
With each theme there are awareness activities that are designed to support you in getting a deeper understanding of how each of these themes applies to your life. The themes are not chosen randomly. If you explore them carefully you will see that each one plays an important part in our day to day lives and when we don't have a good understanding in any one of them, it can make life more stressful. So the awareness activity that we practice is like shining a light on our life from a particular angle to see what's there.
For example, take the theme of Choice. Each day in our lives we make choices. How well do we do that? Do we even know we have choice? Or are we driven in our choices by some invisible force without making any conscious choice in each situation. And do we always make the same choices or are we able to practice Discernment and learn that different choices apply to different situations even though the difference may be very subtle.
Ultimately, practicing self awareness activities and exercises can help us develop real Wisdom that we can apply to our daily lives and become much less stressed as a result.
Yet another huge benefit from awareness is Freedom. Knowing ourselves and knowing what is happening around us gives us the time and space to respond to any situation in a way that makes us free to be who we are without apology or worry. That is one awesome gift!
Another aspect of awareness that is great for turning stress into bliss lies in the practicing
an attitude of gratitude.
