It has almost a household term in recent years from the popularization of the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Programs. Kabat-Zinn developed a practice based initially on selected Bhuddist principles. He summarizes his approach as "a particular way of paying attention: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."

Mindfulness can be practiced in many ways and is not difficult to learn. It also does not have to be related to any particular philosophy other than a simple pragmatic approach to life that transcends all religions.
